Teaching On Line

I am not retired: Currently, I have sixteen (16) college students signed up to take my Market Research course on line. They meet with me one hour per week for 9 weeks where I review the course content, clarify where needed and conduct Q & A. The remainder of the student's time is spent interacting with the on line course materials which guides them through the 72 objectives, the associated learning activities, and the content assessment regime (practice and real tests) of the course. This course is self-instructional in nature and can be completed easily in an 8-9 week semester. Doane College - Lincoln sponsored this course for 3-hours of undergraduate credit.

This course was developed while I was a Senior Analyst/Consultant with The Gallup Organization. It was originally developed as a series of hands-on activities intended to expose new employees to Gallup's methodology and approaches in Market Research. But, it evolved into an in-depth course covering everything from The sale through Survey Development, Sample Design, Data Collection and Analysis, Reporting, and Advice-giving. It is a comprehensive course in Market Research.

Week 1 was fun...we got everyone introduced, showed them how to use the on line course materials and, then, we did some Q & A. The course is a two-way audio-visual broadcast using Skype.com (audio-visual) and Live Meeting (convening software). We had a great first class...the typical glitched ensued (sound/no sound and student confusion)... but, everyone seem to be on task and ready to learn Market Research.

Week 2 will be interesting...can't wait!!!

Weeks 3 - 5 were fun and have moved along smoothly....test 1 went well and test 2 is in their email for "show-n-tell."

Weeks 6-8 the course went very well. Online teaching is wonderfully satisfying to the teacher....and, hopefully for the students...let's see what they say!

All passed...YEA!!!

I can teach this course on Skype and students can download the lessons to complete the course at home on their own time and at their own speed. Ask Jim about his self-directed marketing research employee education module system.
