Driving along one day I realized that I was gett'in OLD!!! Just the thought of it made me happy, though! It was simply because my first thoughts after that were about my two sons and their already multi-successful lives...flashing back to the pride I felt when Michael caught a TD pass for the Raiders and when Dan received his trophy as the Science Fair winner in Vermillion. Those were my GLORY DAYS...seeing success in my boys lives...seeing smiles on their faces....seeing satisfaction in their eyes....and, hearing "thanks Mom!" come from their lips. The latter was flippantly made up after seeing jocks thanking their MOMs on TV!!! Hey, who da heck was their coach during all of those little league years??!! Oh, well....Tiger's dad represented all of we "ex jock dads" with great esteem...thanks, Angel Earl!!!
Back to reminencing....then, I could see my son Dan being honored often as Gallup's best data analyst and Michael being thrilled to get 100% of his high school grads into college this year....wow, what can a dad do but say...wow!!! But, can there be a lesson in all of this? Sure, of course! Remember, my sons, LIFE IS FAIR ... life is the fulfillment of YOUR self designed plan ... it's the constant striving for a better you. Keep on striving my sons....you will be your best self in the end. And, no one can take away your smiles, brighter eyes and joyful feelings that come from those efforts. They are yours....not mine...not MOM's....YOURS!

Daddio,
ReplyDeleteThanks for reawakening those almost forgotten memories of the unbeatable Raiders flag football team in Tallahassee, Florida! Who could forget those knee-high tube sports socks we wore! Thank you for being such a great dad, then and now. Thanks for "putting me in the game" and being there when I needed to come out for a while to heal.
Love you,
Michael
My son thinks that he loves me more than I love him...bolderdash!!!!!!
